Re: Free Willie! (Non-Dead, but gotta love him) |
Hey CC--not to kick a dead horse, but the problem with these sorts of terms is that the historical usage is based on associations by class with negative baggage that is entirely unfounded (unless you really are a racist, bigot, etc., etc.). Thus, they are only an insult if one accepts the historically inaccurate baggage, which of course, is fundamentally nonsense. EG, the "N" word was meaningless in and of itself originally as it was used to distinguish "race" at some level. Of course, the baggage it came to represent is far more evil and derogatory, even though it was/is all based on "because you are a member of this class, you are bad/evil/stupid/whatever". And it's not a "PC" thing to reject it. It's just the right thing to do. Likewise with so many of these other terms that in and of themselves have no significance EXCEPT for the historical implications/connotations/etc.
Besides, it doesn't take much of a vocabulary to avoid these sorts of class based terms and much more simply and directly insult your victim with straight up descriptors based on their behavior ("Jane, you ignorant slut").
